And the award for the BEST ACTRESS in a leading role goes to…SANDRA BULLOCK!!! Yes, ladies and gentlemen, the Academy decided that Sandra Bullock was the best actress in her leading role in The Blind Side and they definitely got it right. Sandra Bullock’s performance in this movie is not only inspiring, but very motivating to be more sensitive to the needs of others. It is almost impossible not to hear from members of the audience, right after seeing this movie, how inspiring and moving it was. There is no doubt that no matter what your favorite movie type is, you will be touched and motivated to be a better person, and to be grateful for what you have.

Sandra Bullock, through her OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE as Leigh Anne Tuohy, showed how everyone has the opportunity to give and to change the lives of those in need. It is true that she plays the role of a rich woman who has the means to help an unfortunate teen. However, she inspires us to look around and to look for opportunities to give to those who have less than us. Bullock also portrays the fears and uncertainty that we all might have when we try to help, but she also shows that there are reasons to believe that there are people who we can trust, even if they are strangers and homeless.

GRATITUDE is one of the feelings that we experience at watching The Blind Side but it is also a feeling that the very Sandra Bullock experienced during her Oscar award acceptance moment when she said, “I have so many people to thank for my good fortune in this lifetime and this is a once-in-a-lifetime experience, I know. To the family that allowed me to play them, the Tuohy family, I know they’re in here and you’ll probably hear her in a minute.” And this is probably why this story has touched and is still touching many hearts, it makes us think how fortunate we are with what we have, instead of focusing on what we don’t have.

As we mentioned last month, we at thatshowsucks are proud to announce that The Blind Side holds the 1st place trophy for our favorite motivational sports movie. And this month, we are proud that the actress with the leading role in The Blind Side was awarded with a prestigious OSCAR. Yesterday was the Academy Awards and what a night it was. The thing that surprised me the most was the vast amount of upsets in the awards. I’m also pretty upset about the fact that Avatar did not win the best picture. I bet it would have won if it had a rating of R on the box. Oh well, I guess it’s all over, but still, The Hurt Locker, come on… You could have at least chosen Blind Side or something else like that. It seems like every year there are a few movies in the running for best picture that I’ve never heard of before. It may be because they were no name films or because I heard bad reviews, but either way there are always a few I’ve never seen. This year we’re going to help you out and compile a list of trailers for all academy awards best picture nominations.

We are only five days away from this year’s Academy Awards ceremony. We have searched the web and found the most interesting Academy Awards fun facts. We hope you enjoy the information and that you watch the show in five days.

The first winner of best picture was Wings (1927 – 1928).

Only three people have refused to except their Oscars: George C. Scott, Marlon Brando, and Dudley Nichols.

Oliver! (1968) was the only G-rated movie to win best picture.

The year after Oliver! won, Midnight Cowboy took home the best picture award and to this day is the only rated X movie to win best picture.

Even if you win an Oscar, you must sign an agreement stating that you will not sell it to anyone besides the Academy. The Academy will only offer $1.

The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King was the only fantasy film to win best picture.

Anthony Quinn and Judi Dench won best supporting actor/actress awards for roles lasting only eight minutes.

The Godfather and Lord of the Rings movies are the only trilogies to have all three films nominated for best picture.

Kevin O’Connell, a sound technician, has been nominated 20 times without ever winning. Sorry man.

Only four women have been nominated for best director.

Avatar is the highest grossing movie to ever be nominated for best picture.

Cimarron won best picture with a Rotten Tomatoes rating of only 36%.

Hopefully we’ll see some new records set this year, but once again, make sure to tune in and enjoy the show.

Alice in Wonderland Movie Trailer

In Alice in Wonderland, Alice Kingsley, now 19, attends a party at a Victorian estate shortly after the death of her beloved father. Alice spots a white rabbit wearing a waistcoat and pocket watch. In shock and confusion, she runs off into a maze and follows the White Rabbit through it. She eventually tumbles down a rabbit hole into Underland, more commonly referred to as “Wonderland” by its inhabitants. She had visited this place 10 years earlier, but had entirely forgotten about it. She is also told that she is the only one who can slay the Jabberwock, the dragon who terrorizes the inhabitants of Wonderland under the rule of the Red Queen. Alice in Wonderland is sure to be one of this year’s top movies.

Friday Night Movie Night Feb. 25, 2010

Okay, well I’m a little disappointed in the lack of good movies coming out in the theaters lately. It seems like all the good shows get lumped together and then everything that sucks fills in all the gaps. There is some hope in Netflix and Redbox movies, but honestly, avoid the theaters and save your money.

Going to the Theater:

If you want to get out and actually spend money in our current economy, here are the top two movies that everyone should enjoy if you haven’t seen them already (click title to see trailer).

First Choice: Sherlock Holmes

Close Second: Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief

Avatar is off the list only because you should have seen it already. Sherlock Holmes is arguably one of the better Robert Downey Jr. Movies. Percy Jackson and the really long title is a great show for kids and adults alike.

Redbox:

If you’re too lazy and don’t feel like going to the theater, then here are our two suggestions for you to pick up at your local unnamed movie-disposal box that may or may not be the color red.

First Choice: Anchorman

Close Second: Terminator Salvation

Anchorman can get a little crude at parts, but it’s a very funny movie. I find myself quoting several lines from the movie pretty regularly. Terminator is a great show for any kind of an action buff. The movie gives guys what they want in a movie without making it unbearable for women to watch too.

Netflix:

If you can’t even make it to a local rental place or redbox, but have streaming Netflix at home via computer or xbox, then here are a couple of winners for your night.

First Choice: Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

Close Second: Air Force One

I have one word for Eternal Sunshine and the Spotless Mind: Trippy. Trippy, but good. Air Force One is a classic and anyone and everyone who likes Harrison Ford and any of his movies will love this one.

Have a great weekend and don’t do anything stupid, like watch the Never Ending Story upside down while eating Skittles.

Lost – Is anyone else Lost?

So a couple years back, my sister got me hooked on the television show Lost. When I started, I never thought that it would turn into a show that has black smoke, temples, and a lot of murder. I have heard a ton of rumors from friends and family about anything and everything. So to make everyone’s life a little bit more interesting I’m compiling a list of rumors and spoilers about the show Lost. Enjoy:

- Jacob and the guy possessing John Locke are Egyptian gods.
- Charlie and Claire grow close again in this alternate universe thing.
- Locke may end up not being able to walk again on the island.
- More Polar Bears to come.
- Nadia comes back.
- Hurley will see how that massive statue was destroyed.
- Sayid kills fake Locke later on.
- The numbers next to the “candidates” names is the order of their deaths.

Best Olympic Movies of All Time

We all know there is plenty of ski jumping and hockey going on up at the Canada Olympics right now. If you are anything like most of the people I know, your t.v. hasn’t been turned off in the past week or so and all spare time is dedicated to seeing who wins the next gold. There are those times, however, when you’re in the Olympic spirit and the only sport on is boring, like … curling. If you find yourself in this situation we have some of the best Olympic sports movies of all time:

Bronze Medal Chariots of Fire
	The story, told in flashback, of two young British sprinters competing for fame in the 1924 Olympics. Eric, a devout Scottish missionary runs because he knows it must please God. Harold, the son of a newly rich Jew runs to prove his place in Cambridge society. In a warmup 100 meter race, Eric defeats Harold, who hires a pro trainer to prepare him. Eric, whose qualifying heat is scheduled for a Sunday, refuses to run despite pressure from the Olympic committee. A compromise is reached when a nobleman allows Eric to compete in his 400 meter slot. Eric and Harold race in their respective races and go on to achieve fame as missionary and businessman/athletic advocate, respectively.
Silver Medal Miracle
	The inspiring story of the team that transcended its sport and united a nation with a new feeling of hope. Based on the true story of one of the greatest moments in sports history, the tale captures a time and place where differences could be settled by games and a cold war could be put on ice. In 1980, the United States Ice Hockey team’s coach, Herb Brooks, took a ragtag squad of college kids up against the legendary juggernaut from the Soviet Union at the Olympic Games. Despite the long odds, Team USA carried the pride of a nation yearning from a distraction from world events. With the world watching the team rose to the occasion, prompting broadcaster Al Michaels’ now famous question, to the millions viewing at home: Do you believe in miracles?
Gold Medal Cool Runnings
	Irving “Irv” Blitzer is an American bobsled double gold medalist at the 1968 Winter Olympics, who finished first in two events again in 1972 but was disqualified for cheating and retired in disgrace to Jamaica, where he leads a destitute life as a bookie. He is approached by top 100m runner Derice Bannock, who failed to qualify for the 1988 Summer Olympics when another opponent, Junior Bevil, tripped at the trials, and pushcart driving champion Sanka Coffie, who both wish to use his previous experience as a coach in order to compete in the 1988 Winter Olympics as bobsledders. Irv had been good friends with Derice’s father, Ben, a former sprinter whom Irv had tried to recruit for the bobsled team years ago. Yul Brenner, another runner who was tripped at the qualifier by Junior, also joins the team. After Irv is convinced to coach the team, the three months of practice begins, initially resulting in embarrassment. However, the four men acclimate to the sport and travel to Calgary and the Olympics.

The real challenge is to go to McDonald’s and buy everything super sized and then eat it as you’re watching the movie “super size me”. I wonder how long it’ll take before you throw that food away and decide to go to the gym. Gattaca is a classic movie that is exciting for everyone who likes action, drama, and a tad science fiction.

Enjoy the weekend and please don’t watch any crappy movies, unless your significant other makes you. If that is the case, then watch them and try not to cry.

The Last Airbender Movie Trailer

Water. Earth. Fire. Air. In the old days, there was peace between the four nations of the world. The Avatar — Master of all four elements — kept peace between the the Water Tribes, the Earth Kingdom, the Fire Nation, and the Air Nomads. Only the Avatar has the ability to Bend (manipulate) all four elements, but one day, he Vanished. Then the Fire Nation attacked, forcing a war on the other three nations for one hundred years. Now, for the good of the world, it’s up to 12-year-old Aang (Noah Ringer), the new Avatar, and the last of the Air Nomads (Airbenders), to return peace and balance by putting an end to the war and mastering all four elements. Aang must accept his destiny by stopping the Fire Nation’s war and defeating the Fire Lord for good. The last airbender is sure to be one of this summer’s less sucky movies.
