The Results of the 2011 Golden Globes

Last night, the Golden Globe Awards took place in Hollywood, CA. While most of the results were rather predictable, there were some surprises, including the sweeping success of “The Social Network.” Some of the other big winners of the night included:

Best Motion Picture – Drama
The Social Network

Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy
The Kids Are All Right

Best Director – Motion Picture
David Fincher for The Social Network

Best Screenplay – Motion Picture
The Social Network: Aaron Sorkin

Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama
Colin Firth for The King’s Speech

and

Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama
Natalie Portman for Black Swan

While these awards do not necessarily predict the outcome of the Oscar awards next month, they give us a pretty good indication as to who the forerunners in the competition are going to be. Colin Firth is such a gifted actor and the King’s Speech is the perfect vehicle for him to display all of his talent. He’s obviously the over-whelming favorite and it’s richly deserved!
