Is the new Joaquin Phoenix mockumentary a money-seeking hoax or not?

Do you remember about a year or more ago when the Gladiator and Walk the Line star Joaquin Phoenix made a startling announcement? He told the world he was going to quit and pursue a rap career; he grew a scruffy beard and started wearing Blues Brothers shades everywhere. And then it seems like he went crazy…

Phoenix walked into the limelight with his new dreams and shocked everybody with how weird he was acting. He went on to The Late Show with David Letterman and was talking like he had basically gone mad. Videos on the internet showed him being the same way. Was this all a big show to get attention or was it real?

Recent events have shed a little bit of light on the situation, but not much. It is now known that Phoenix’s brother-in-law, Casey Affleck, has filmed a mockumentary about Phoenix’s roller-coaster of a year and is looking for a distributor. Some say it is a hoax helmed by the both of them to gain more momentum for the movie, but Affleck insists that his brother-in-law is sincere in his shenanigans.

What do you think, is the whole thing one big joke or not?
